australia - canberra.

After leaving Sydney we drove down to Canberra, Australia's national capital and where we used to live for 4 years. For the most part Canberra was just how I remembered it, although some things had changed. We attempted to find a couple of our favorite restaurants but found out they were closed! And went to visit our old house, which looked so different, until Dad pointed out (after us standing outside taking pictures of it for like 10 minutes) that it was the wrong house and we lived one street over! oopps! :) Growing up as an "Army Brat" has its advantages and disadvantages. Mostly its advantages like being able to live in crazy places like Australia and England but the disadvantage is that you rarely are able to share those childhood stomping grounds with your future spouse and loved ones. I am so thankful that I was able to share a piece of my childhood growing up in Australia with Mikey and Logan, I am very lucky. Some highlights from our Canberra visit were visiting our old schools - Canberra Girls Grammar, our old homes (eventually we found the correct house!), Lift! (this amazing carbonated soda you can only get in Australia), driving around the city and taking in the memorable sites, meeting up with my old friend Sarah from school for coffee, the NASA deep space complex, Tidbinbilla nature reserve  & trying to see/snap a shot of that darn platypus! And Mikey driving our van with the steering wheel on the right side for the first time(they drive on the opposite side of the road in Australia).
